Max D. Townsend
Paris Station
Max D. Townsend, 92, of Paris Station, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Waterville Residential Nursing Home in Waterville.
He was born in Paris Station on August 22, 1932, to the late Albert and Louise Davies Townsend and graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School in 1950. On August 2, 1958, Max and the former Edna (Eddy) Conboy were married in Ilion, New York and celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to Edna's passing on February 3, 2010.
For over 40 years, Max and his brother Carl owned and operated Summit Crest Farms in Paris Station. In that time Max was awarded numerous times including the 1967 Oneida County Young Farmer Award. Max took great pride in building one of the finest herds of registered Holsteins in New York state. His innovations in genetics and milk testing brought the Summit Crest herd to the forefront including a Premier Breeder Award at the New York State Fair in 1976 along with many other awards on the local, state and national circuit. In 1980 Summit Crest Farms was awarded a Century Farm award.
Max was a lifetime member of the Paris Hill Congregational church, former President of the Sauquoit Valley School Board and a 50-year member of the Sauquoit Valley Lions Club. In retirement he enjoyed his time as a board member of Sauquoit Valley Insurnce and as the head curator and operator at the Lincoln Davies Museum in Paris Station. Many people came from near and far to hear the history of Paris Station and his grandfather Lincoln Davies. In 2015, Max was inducted into the Oneida County Historical Legendary Hall of Fame.
Max is survived by his daughter and son in-law Lisa and Charles Crawford of Clinton, his son and daughter in-law Jim and Janine Townsend of Malibu, California, 4 grandchildren Kayla (Crawford) and Matt Moylan. Justin Crawford and Janelle Pett, Julia Townsend and James Townsend Jr. and great-grandchildren Madelyn Moylan and Aedan Crawford, and many more nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna, his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Robert Massey and his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Betty Townsend.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Waterville Residential Care Center for their help during this time.

Max and Eddie helped shape my life while they enjoyed, (perhaps endured or survived is more appropriate), waiting to watch a Sauquoit wrestler take the matt. I have fond memories of Max's subtle laugh's while hanging with the Lowe, LaBarge, and Smith families.
