Howard Yager Obituary

He was born on May 8, 1928 in Utica, a son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Lewis) Yager and graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School. Howard proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1949-1950. In 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary L. Ferrucci and shared a blessed union of nearly 40 years, until her passing on August 8, 1990. Howard was employed as a manager with Kelsey-Hayes in Whitesboro and retired after 37 years of service. He was a past member of the Bridgewater Fire Co.
Howard loved to pass the time, fishing and golfing. In his retirement, Howard started a hobby farm, raising beef cattle. He was very clever and could fix anything, electrical or mechanical. Any day of the week, you would find him working on a piece of machinery for the farm.
Surviving are his sons, Scott (Mindy) Yager, Tucson, AZ, Jeffrey Yager, Bridgewater and Tad (Donna) Yager, Newport; sister, Gertrude Sharbenal; 45 combined grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Harold (Betty) Yager, Ernest (Mary) Yager and Lynn (Betty) Yager.
Howard's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the hospital staff of MVHS, and Hospice and Palliative Care.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service on Thursday May 22 at 1:00 PM in Unadilla Forks Cemetery, with military honors. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit.

Your dad was a wonderful man. He was so good to my family, my grandparents and my parents, and me and my husband. When we bought the beef cows from him he was so helpful. He was really a very personable, wonderful man. He will be miss. We are so sorry for your loss.

Howard was a wonderful man, he was very talented in all things.
He had the best garden a beautiful pond for fishing. He made tastey maple candy and apple cider.
I will cherish all the stories you told me about your life. I loved how you even amazed yourself with all that you did.
You were showing me around your farm " I built that" you said "I built everything " Your eyes lit up when you told me. Your story about your hand me down knickers was my favorite it was so funny!
I will always remember you and I watching Scott run out in the snow to get his clothes he left out to dry with shoes untied and no shirt on he went to jump and the shoes stuck in the mud and he belly flopped in the driveway! You and I laughed so hard we cried, and when he came in the house with his belly all scratched up we laughed some more.
It was wonderful to spend time with you, I wish it could've been more. I will forever keep you in my heart.
You are at peace now with your beautiful wife Mary once again.
