Maximino Melendez Gonzales, 78, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. Born on June 10, 1947, Maximino lived a life rooted, quite literally, in the earth he loved so deeply. A hardworking and gifted landscaper, he spent many years caring for a large estate, where his knowledge of soil, plants, and the rhythms of nature made him an indispensable presence. He found joy in planting, growing, and nurturing the world around him.
Maximino was known for his warm heart, gentle nature, and unfailing generosity. A truly down-to-earth man, he was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His friendly spirit and genuine kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Victoria Gonzales; and his brothers Lorenzo Gonzales, Danny Gonzales, and Robert Gonzales.
Maximino is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Gonzales; and his loving children: Felicia Reyes (husband Eric) of Eastville, CA; Rebecca Thompson (husband Edward) of Kernersville, NC; and Sarah McMoore (husband Freddie) of Thomasville, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Gonzales; and his sisters: Lupe Perez (husband Frank) of Hanford, CA; Carmen Torres (husband Joe); Isabella Gonzales; and Mikalia Gonzales (husband Javier)of Texas.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Jaron Gonzales and son Christopher, Alaysia Thompson and son Atreus, and Johnny Reyes, who will carry forward his love, lessons, and legacy.
Maximino will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were enriched by his kindness and his lifelong devotion to cultivating beauty, both in the land and in the hearts of others.
