Meatrice Taylor Carter was born on September 14, 1967, to Willie Oscar Taylor and the late
Ella Pearl Thurman. She was the first grandchild of Maudine Taylor and the late Oscar
Taylor.
At an early age, Meatrice joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she eagerly
became a member of the church chorus. God blessed her with an angelic voice, and she
used it to minister to others through song and praise.
For part of us went with you the day God called you home. We're left with beautiful
memories. Your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as
God calls us one by one the chain will link again.
She attended Jackson High School and graduated with the Class of 1985. During her high
school years, she was active in basketball, softball, and track. Meatrice also attended
Clark Atlanta University before choosing to pursue other opportunities.
Her professional career began at the Georgia Department of Driver Services, after which
she transitioned to the United States Postal Service. There, she devoted 26 years of
faithful service.
Meatrice was married to the love of her life, Elder Michael Carter. Together, they were
blessed with two children: Michail Carter and Meagan Carter. Her legacy also includes
her beloved grandson, the apple of her eye, Kambryn Myers. Her love for her family was
unwavering.
She continued her spiritual journey at the Gospel of Christ Church in Jackson, Georgia.
She also became First Lady, at Oak Grove Holiness Church in Forsyth Georgia; where she
was honored to serve alongside her husband in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Meatrice lived a full and meaningful life, finding joy in the simple things. She was known
for her famous pound cakes and, by all accounts, made the best spaghetti in the world.
She loved organizing family events and singing, had a great sense of humor, and was
generous in both spirit and action. She kept everyone around her laughing. Her favorite
movie was The Color Purple, and she knew every line by heart.
On February 28, 2025, she proudly sang the National Anthem at the First Day of the Stamp
Reveal of the Appalachian Trail in Dawsonville, Georgia, receiving much acclaim.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Elder Michael Carter; her children,
Michail Carter and Meagan Carter; her grandson, Kambryn Myers; her father, Willie Oscar Taylor (Mary); her grandmother, Maudine Taylor; her siblings, Johnathan Taylor, Melanie Barner (Rodriquez), and Michael Thurman; her maternal and paternal aunts and uncles, Christine Blalock, Linda Bradford, Sylvia Eberhart (Craig), Delores Henderson (Terry), Curtis Taylor (Pearl), and Curtis Henderson; her mother-in-law, Shelia Carter; her sister-in
-law, Kayla Carter; and her brothers-in-law, Larry Jester and Brandon Carter, god daughters Sherrickus (Tony) Roberts, Zaria Grier and Okevia Fish. She is also survived by a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
On June 19, 2025, at the age of 57, Meatrice completed her earthly journey, leaving behind
a legacy of resilience, love, and joy. Her life was truly a job well done, and her memory will
continue to inspire all who knew her.
