Ms. Marohn was an utterly fabulous person and a brilliant teacher. She transformed her classroom into an oasis. Whenever I entered her room, decorated lovingly with art and political posters, I had a full body exhale. For the next 45 minutes, I could analyze Joanna Newsom lyrics, freewrite, watch slam poetry, analyze a scene from a play. And maybe - if I was lucky - I'd get a one-on-one with Ms. Marohn.
She really was the best kind of teacher. She treated us and our writing seriously. Because of her, we felt like our work was important. Her feedback was thoughtful and specific - she knew just what to say to get you inspired, to help you unlock that next paragraph.
She dared her students to be better people. Officially, CHS categorized her as an English teacher - but she taught us about the environment, the Berlin wall, philosophy, and Occupy Wall Street. God, she was cool. We left that classroom both profoundly disturbed by the world and inspired to try and save it.
Looking back, I'm shocked by how generous she was with her time. In addition to being a teacher, she ran extracurricular clubs, she recruited guest speakers like Cornel West, and she let us ask her questions during lunch. She gave so much of herself.
It is impossible to quantify all of the good that Meghan Marohn has done for this world. I know that even now her impact is still rippling outward in ever-widening circles. So many people live better, kinder, more thoughtful lives because of her.
To Ms. Marohn's family and friends- I am so, so sorry, for your loss. She was every bit as brilliant of a teacher as you suspected. I wish everyone who loved her peace. My heart is with you during this time.

I knew her as Ms. Marohn. An English teacher who was always so excited to share her favorite artist or current poet or poem. To shed light on the world we live in and what we could do as students to make it a better one. She saw us, not only as students, but also as people who were, and are scared of what the future holds.
During my first writing conference with her, she had expressed that the piece I had written reminded her of Kintsugi. Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese art form of repairing broken things with gold, allowing people to embrace the beauty within the broken and unhealed things in life.
It has been at least six months since I saw her last. I wished her a good day as I walked out of the classroom. I had no idea that it would be the last time I would ever do so.
I am trying to remember her words. I am trying to repair my heart with the gold that was her words and her presence.
"The great teacher inspires." --William Arthur Ward.
Ms. Marohn inspires me. I refuse to forget the feeling of being seen when we talked about my writing. So I will let that inspiration push me when I feel like I cannot write another word. I will remember her and the gold within my heart will shine.

My very dear Bill, Peter, Amy and Meghan´s family,
I wish so much I could be there with you in this moment, and hold you in my arms...just be assured that my heart is right next to you.
Beautiful Meg will keep inspiring all of us with her poetry and her wit, her sense of generosity and friendship, of caring and sharing, but also with her faith, her strength, her convictions and her commitments. She will keep spreading her light on those of us who have had the luck to meet her and have definitely been touched by her grace... for ever.
With love,
XXX

My heartfelt sympathy to beautiful Meg's family. I met her in 2016 when she wrote me a poem for her brilliant Troy Poem Project and we stayed in touch. (I shared a photo of that evening). A truly beautiful soul who encouraged me to keep sharing pictures that "remind people of the beauty and wonder in the world." I can still feel her adding to that beauty and wonder and am sure you can, too. Peace and comfort to you all.

I met Meghan when she was an adolescent when she was visiting my niece. She was a beautiful and lovely young woman. My sincere condolences to her family on the loss of Meghan.
