Melanie Marie Mitzel

Melanie Mitzel peacefully passed away from small-cell lung cancer on May 12, 2025. She was the youngest of Joe and Eleanor Mitzel's children. She was born and raised in Yakima, graduating from Davis High School and attended North Seattle Community College. She previously worked at Stadelman Fruit and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. She lived in Seattle, WA, Richmond, VA, and then in Hingham, MT, before returning to Yakima, Washington.
Melanie enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren and was a NASCAR enthusiast, attending many races. She is survived by two daughters Chelsea (Steven) Granstrand, Alexandra Emmerson, and two grandchildren, Matthew and Olive; siblings: Sharon (Robert) Wilson of Rocky Mount, NC, Mike (Sherry) Mitzel and Dale Mitzel of Mesa, AZ, Mary (Jim) Johnson of Pendleton, OR, Robert (Tami) of Yakima, WA, Teresa Zamzow of San Diego, CA, and Susan Wells of Hingham, MT, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, brother Tom Mitzel, and her pug Castle.
Viewing will be held at Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a Graveside Service following at Calvary Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
