Michael Canty Obituary

Mike was the son of William Augustus Canty, III and Harriet Marie Hackett. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Tuscaloosa. Mike grew up in Tuscaloosa and was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1961 and attended Marion Military Institute during the 1958-59 school year. Mike had two children, Michael Terry Canty, Jr., who passed away in 2023, and Michelle Canty Latham, both of Tuscaloosa.
Mike lived in Tuscaloosa all of his life and worked as an iron worker and welder for most of his professional career. Mike's hobbies were NASCAR, gardening and model airplanes. He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge, where he was a Leading Knight on the Ritual Team. He was also a member of the Black Warrior Cloggers, and regularly performed at community events. Mike was also a long-time employee in the Guest Services Department of DCH Regional Medical Center. Mike had two sisters, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Michael was a wonderful brother who I loved with all my heart. I miss him and his smile so much. He is at peace now. May God bless this beautiful man.
