Michael R. Edwards, 59, of 36 Beagle Club Road,
Attleboro, Massachusetts passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born in Attleboro, he was the son of his best friend, the late Robert J. Edwards and the late Diane Edwards. Mike is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Frank J. Almeida and his wife, Madonne Almeida, of
Attleboro, Massachusetts; and his paternal grandparents Henry K. Edwards, and his wife, Evelyn Edwards, of
Attleboro, Massachusetts. Michael resided in Attleboro for the majority of his life and attended Attleboro High School prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps.
Michael is survived by his twin sons, Matthew R. Edwards of
Attleboro, Massachusetts and Nicholas M. Edwards and his fiancée, Taylor Corey, of North
Attleboro, Massachusetts.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his brother, James M. Edwards and his partner Lynne Crandall of West Boylston, Massachusetts, his sisters, Lynn M. Coffey and her husband, Alan Coffey, of
Attleboro, Massachusetts and Bethany A. Edwards and her partner, Adam Reid, of Plymouth, Massachusetts; along with his nieces Kaitlyn L. Edwards of Mansfield, Massachusetts, and Amanda L. Stroud and her partner, Matthew Kumiega, of Riverside, Rhode Island and his nephews, John G. Stroud, II. and Jeremiah A. Coffey both of
Attleboro, Massachusetts. Mike is also survived by his maternal aunt Bernadette M. (Almeida) Pina and her husband, Richard Pina, of Bellingham, Massachusetts.
Mike, as he was known by, was fiercely passionate about his family and enjoyed time playing pool, darts and golfing in his later years. He never passed on a game of cribbage or poker if there was a deck of cards to be found. Mike enjoyed trips with his family and friends to the local casinos and particularly enjoyed video poker, keno and the daily numbers, much like his father, Robert. Throughout his life, Mike was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed spending early mornings by the water.
Mike and his family enjoyed traveling but enjoyed more simple vacations in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire or in coastal Maine. It was around campfires, scratch tickets, card tables, horseshoe pits, ping-pong tables, pool tables and dinner tables that some of the most memorable family times were enjoyed.
Mike was devoted to caring for his children, nieces, nephews, siblings and his father Robert, until Robert's passing in 2021. With each of them he had unique relationships, including humor and sarcasm; however, each relationship at its core was rooted in a fierce protection and love for each member of his family. Mike had the gift of gab and would lend an ear to anyone who would engage in conversation with him.
Mike's devotion was not limited only to his family and friends but also to his country and employers throughout his work life. Mike's Marine Corps background was an essential building block for the man he would become. After his military service, Mike obtained his CDL and worked tirelessly for several trucking service employers. He continued the standard set by his father, Robert, for dependability and loyalty towards his family and employers.
He was an avid sports fan who loved all of the local teams, but had a special place in his heart for the Red Sox. Mike shared precious outings with family members and friends, at many Red Sox and Patriots games, where so many thrilling, life-long memories were forged around his beloved teams.
He was a kind hearted, sentimental guy, who made those around him laugh and smile with his sarcasm and jokes. Gatherings with his family and friends centered around his kindness and generosity. He welcomed neighbors, in-laws, and loved ones of his children into his home all as though they were his own.
Mike was truly a devoted family guy who loved others with all his heart. He cared for his children and extended family as he devoted his life to making sure they had all of what they needed. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of having known him.
We would like to thank Beacon Hospice, specifically his nurse Liz, for caring for Mike during his final weeks. We would also like to thank Mike's doctors at the VA Hospital in Providence, specifically his oncology and radiology team.
