Michael J. Feinstein 87, a longtime resident of Rockland, died peacefully Wednesday March 6th, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Barbara (O'Malley) Feinstein.
Born and raised in Dorchester, one of 4 children, he was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Ryan) Feinstein.
Mike was a standout basketball player at Boston English High School. After high school he toured South America with the Harlem Globe Trotters playing on the Philadelphia Sphas, against superstars Wilt Chamberlain and Meadowlark Lemon, where he earned a contract offer from the Philadelphia Warriors of the NBA. He decided to return home and join the family business to be with his growing family.
For over 48 years, Mike had been a resident of Rockland where he, along with his wife Barbara, had raised their 8 children. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. His greatest joy came from the time spent with his large family surrounding him, and following the many activities of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving children, Michael Feinstein of Rockland, Barbara Sargent and her
husband Scott of Rogers, AR, Peter Feinstein and his wife Jacqueline of Plymouth, Brenda Feinstein of Rockland, Mary Murrill and her husband Mark of Katy, TX, Brian Feinstein and his wife Dawn of Hanover, Teresa Kimball and her husband Dan of Rockland, and Ann Marie Feinstein of Norwell. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his wife Barbara and son Paul. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Leo Feinstein of Rhode Island, Therese Cody of Rockland, and Kathleen Law of Abington.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mike's visiting hours Monday, March 11 from 4:00-7:00 at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service will be held Tuesday March 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Blanchard Funeral Chapel followed
by Burial in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in Michael's name to the school where he spent so much time on the sidelines cheering on his children and grandchildren, Rockland High School Attn: Athletic Department, 52 McKinlay Way, Rockland, MA 02370 or a charity of your choice.
