On Monday, December 26, 2022, Michael James Garrett, a loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 71. Mike was born on December 24,1951 in Clovis, CA to James and Rose Garrett, the eldest of 6 children.
As a child he was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a teen. He graduated from Antioch High School in 1970. From there he was drafted into the United States Army. He was in the 30th Transport Company and served as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was discharged from the Army in November of 1973. Upon his return from the Army, he started working for Crown Zellerbach in Antioch, where he worked until it closed in 1980.
In August of 1974, he married the love of his life, Stephanie and they spent the next 48 years together. In May of 1980, his daughter Crystal was born. Soon after he started working for Chevron Pipeline Company. In December of 1982, his son Bruce was born. In February of 2004, he welcomed his first grandchild, granddaughter Haley.
In April of 2007 he retired from Chevron after nearly 27 years. In February of 2010, his second granddaughter, Emma, was born, followed by Katlyn in May of 2012, Maci in June of 2013 and Karley in January of 2014. In May of 2019, his first and only grandson, Bruce was born followed by his youngest granddaughter, Sophie in November of 2020.
Mike loved to ski, camp and abalone dive with his best friends, do woodworking, garden, listen to the "oldies" and just be with family and friends. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He would do anything he could to help someone he loved. He will be deeply missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James, his sister, Karon (Jerry), and brother, Pat (Elizabeth). He is survived by his mother, Rose, wife, Stephanie, his two children, Crystal (Adam) and Bruce (Alicia), his 7 grandchildren, Haley, Emma, Katlyn, Maci, Karley, Bruce and Sophie, his sisters Evie (Roger) and Kathy (Jim), his brother Steve (Collette) and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Holy Cross Cemetery and Funeral Center, 2200 E. 18th Street in Antioch at 11 am, a wake prior to the liturgy will start at 10 am. He will be buried in Dixon at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations to your favorite charity.
