Michael J. Green, Sr., 85, of West Chicago, passed away Tuesday, May 7.
Michael was born April 17, 1939, the son of William and Genevieve (Foster) Green, in Troy, NY. Following his graduation from the LaSalle Institute college preparatory school, Michael went on to attend Sienna College in Loudonville, NY, where he earned his degree in Chemistry.
In 1959 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Hayes, also of Troy. That same year, Michael and his wife moved to Morristown, NJ, and he started his career as a chemist working for Ciba-Geigy company in Summit, NJ. In 1961 he went to work for Ridgeway Color and Chemical, a position that would eventually relocate him to Illinois in 1964. While working at a trade show in Chicago's McCormick Place, he ran into Michael Opar, a fellow classmate from Sienna College and a familiar face from the old neighborhood in Troy. The two reconnected and in 1966 started their own company, Pargreen Sales Engineering, specializing in the sales and service of industrial filtration and pumping equipment.
In his spare time, he liked to stay active by playing tennis as often as he could along with the occasional round of golf. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan, woodworking and spending quite a bit of time outdoors with his family enjoying the lakes and wilderness of Northern Minnesota.
Michael is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Hayes); Five sons: Michael (Cindy) of Westminster, CO, Matthew (Susan) of West Chicago, IL, Mark (Colleen) of Elgin, IL, William (Robin) of Greenwood, IN, and Jeffrey (Ronda) of St. Charles, IL; twelve beloved grandchildren: Jennifer (Steve) Gardner, Megan (Tyler) Church, Matthew, Katelyn (Vince) Salas, Kelly Langtim, Jack, Kevin, Emily, Ryan, Michael, Genevieve and Benjamin; six great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Ava Gardner, Vivian, Levi and Ella Salas, and Imogene Church; two sisters: Iris (Gene) Davenport and Janice (Joe) Strang of NY; one Brother, William Green of NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael's family will hold a private ceremony at the DuPage Memorial Chapel in West Chicago, IL. The family asks for donations to be made in Michael's name to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers, and for friends and loved ones to remember him fondly with a sip of Irish Whiskey or their favorite Southern Comfort cocktail.

I have so many beautiful memories of Uncle Mike. He had such a presence when he walked into the room, and his smile was always present. He and my Aunt Mel were so wonderful when we visited Chicago. I cherish all our time spent in Chicago and Troy with my cousins. Growing up, it felt like they were an extension of my brothers. We may only see or talk sometimes, but we always picked up where we left off whenever we got together. We love you.
Rest in peace, Uncle Mike.

A Few Memories of our brother Mike:
All 4 of us working together in the family store "Bill Green´s Grocery Store" in South Troy

After the store closed at 11:30 on Saturday nights, Mike would entertain us with the funniest jokes! So many laughs!

Mike taught Iris and me to Jitterbug.

I never would have passed Geometry without Mike. He taught me the Pythagorean Theorem before my teacher!

The wonderful Green - Hayes Reunions Mel and Mike treated us to!

And the beat goes on in each of his children and their families!

Love, Iris, Bill, and Janice

I remember as a young girl how Uncle Mike would talk about his time at Siena and also his early love for sales. It left a lasting impression. He was also just a cool guy with an amazing family. Lots of warm memories of Aunt Mel, Uncle Mike and our great cousins. Love you all.
