Michael Steven Higgins
April 26, 1985 – September 11, 2025
Michael (Mike) Higgins (beloved husband of Brittany Higgins (nee Bernard) and father of Michael, Jr, Felicity, and Sylvie), age 40, of Haddon Township, NJ passed suddenly on September 11, 2025, in Jim Thorpe, PA while serving in his vital profession as a journeyman lineman.
Born in Camden, NJ on April 26, 1985, to parents Beth Ann Higgins (Kerchersky) and William (Bill) Higgins, Mike grew up with four brothers Sean, Kieran, Daniel, and Patrick in Upper Pittsgrove, NJ. Mike, affectionately known as a human almanac with sharp wit, chatted with everyone he met. At ten years old, he was honored at the White House for his work lobbying with Tobacco Free Kids. He graduated from Woodstown High School. Mike was a proud Varsity member of the wrestling team. He was a member of the high school football team, The National Honor Society, and The National Academic League. He explored the world around him as a Boy Scout.
After high school, he continued his education at Rowan University, earning a B.A. in Political Science. He was a brother of Delta Kappa Epsilon Alpha Mu Chapter and served as fraternity President. At Rowan, he met his wife Brittany Higgins at the library, bonding later at a party over shared admiration for actor Steve McQueen.
Mike was a rock for his family, a distinct balance of calm, boisterous, intellect, and fun. Brittany and Mike cherished their time growing up together, spending eighteen years budding from college kids into devoted parents and all that's in between. Mike was a gentle force and best friend to his brilliant, dear son Michael, Jr, and a true teddy bear dad to his little girls Felicity and Sylvie. He loved nothing more than summer weekends down the shore, blasting music from the golf cart after a beach day; or taking a winter trip to the mountains in Vermont.
As a journeyman lineman and certified barehander, Mike was a standout mentor. He was dedicated to the critical work of building and restoring power, taking on challenging projects with meticulous intention. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 351, and traveled throughout the country, including working on repairs for Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Ida.
Michael is survived by his wife Brittany, three children Michael Jr., Felicity, and Sylvie, parents Beth Ann Higgins (Kerchersky) and Bill Higgins, father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert W. Bernard, Jr. and Jane Bernard (nee Spink), brothers Sean (Tina), Kieran (Amanda), Daniel (Joyce), and Patrick (Rachel), sister-in-laws Erin Bernard-Harris (Theodore), Rachel Nord (Zachary), and Shaina Drake (Walter, III), his 13 beloved nieces and nephews (Gabriel, Kendall, Genevieve, Kallie, Vanessa, Ceora, Justice, Daniel, Jr, Kieran, Jr., Graham, Prescott, Benjamin, and Walter, IV), and the family dog, Luna.
