Mr. Michael Lewis Houston, son and only child of the late Juanita Fields Houston and John Lewis Houston, was born March 10, 1959, in Jesup, Georgia.
He received his education in the public schools of Wayne County, Georgia and graduated from Wayne County High School in 1978. He worked many years as a custodian at Jesup Elementary School and the remainder of his life until retirement from Wayne County HeadStart where the staff and students knew him as "Mr. Mike."
He held dear to his heart his community involvement associations by membership in the Masons, community choir group, the Voices of Wayne, and earlier years as a male mentor in the Boyz to Men mentoring group. He was a loyal member of Mt. Mariah A.M.E. Church where he served on the Trustee Board and at one time as Pro-Tem of the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Choir, and as the church custodian. He was a devoted son and family member. His younger cousins referred to him as "Sky Mike" due to his love of his treasured vintage Sky Lark automobile.
Michael passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2025. He leaves to mourn his passing, his two maternal aunts Elizabeth "Dovie" Iles and Janie Cohen, Greenwood, SC, and his uncle Willie Fields (Luberta), Greenwood, SC. Also, he leaves, his paternal aunt, Juanita Hill Houston (Burnice deceased), devoted cousins James Houston (Bobbie), Ronnie Hopps (Vicki), Vicky Mitchell (Alexander), Brenda Ballard (Herb), Lanell Johnson (Demetrius), Greenwood, SC, like a sister, Loretta Dasher and a host of other cousins, family and friends.
There will not be a wake/visitation on Friday.
