Michael Wayne Johnson, 49, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Michael’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 13th at Glad Tidings Church, officiated by Rev. Robert Robbinson. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 12th at Glad Tidings Church. For those unable to attend, the funeral service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Michael was born on November 10, 1975, in Dunn, NC, to William “Bunky” Johnson and Elaine Baker Johnson. A proud graduate of West Carteret High School, Class of 1994, he continued his education at Wake Tech Community College and North Carolina State University. In 1997, he took over the family business, Johnson Drywall, where he dedicated himself to his career. In 2019, Michael became an Independent Operator for Sunset Slush Classic Italian Ice, where he enjoyed customers across various locations, including serving them from his boat this past summer.
An avid sports enthusiast, Michael enjoyed playing basketball, and golf. He was a passionate basketball spectator and a devoted NASCAR fan, especially admiring his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Michael cherished life’s simple pleasures, from fishing and spending time in his barn to relaxing by the fire. He was particularly known for his delicious corn on the cob and shrimp dish, which he loved preparing for family and friends.
Michael was known for his generosity and kindness to others, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his loved ones, with his son Blake being the greatest joy of his life.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife and sweetheart of 14 years, Kendra James Johnson and their son, Blake James Johnson, both of Beaufort; his father, William “Bunky” Johnson of Beaufort; sister, Lisa Johnson Munden and husband Phillip of Morehead City; aunts, Debbie Matthews of Buies Creek and Joyce Lamm and husband Jerry of Lillington; nieces, Lexie Lane Garner and Maggie Grace Munden, both of Morehead City; and numerous loving aunts uncles and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Baker Johnson and uncle, Donald Ray Baker.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570 or to a Trust Fund for his son with checks made payable to "College America" c/o Blake Johnson, Account # 4005022402, the mailing address is American Funds Service Company, P.O.
