Montpelier, VT
Michael John Knight, 63, of Greenfield Terrace, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on March 5, 1960 in Passaic, NJ. After his family moved to Vermont, Michael graduated from Williamstown High School in 1978. He later went on to attend Vermont Technical College, Community College of Vermont, and finally Johnson State College where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing.
Most recently Mike was a sales manager for Reynold & Sons in Barre. Previously he worked for Real Good Toys, the Barre Opera House, Times Argus, VT Digger, and Sun Common. Michael's genuine nature made him an instant friend to his clients. It was often that he would run into somebody he knew and he thoroughly enjoyed catching up on life's happenings.
In July of 2003, Michael married Melinda Moz at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier with a reception on the campus of Goddard College in Plainfield. Recently, the couple celebrated their 20th anniversary with a trip to the Bahamas, a trip they will never forget.
Michael was a past president of the Barre Rotary Club, a member of Toastmasters Savvy Speakers of Barre, and a proud member of AA, where he served as the Regional District Governor. As a sponsor, Michael's sobriety and guidance helped many community members through their own struggles.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda Moz-Knight of Montpelier; his children, Avery and Jekyll Knight of Montpelier; his mother Theresa Knight of Williamstown; siblings, Maryanne Knight of Santa Barbara, CA, Celeste Pitts of Lancaster, NH, and Willet Knight, Jr of Williamstown, VT.
He was predeceased by his father, Willet Knight, Sr of Williamstown.
Services will be held privately however a celebration of life will be announced in the spring.
Michael's family requests memorial contributions be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, https://contribution.aa.org or to the Barre Rotary Club, P.O. Box 167, Barre, VT 05641
Arrangements are in the care of Guare and Sons Funeral Home of Montpelier, VT. Those wishing to express online condolences may do so at www.guareandsons.com.

I don't understand why, but somehow, I find it extremely sad and really difficult to leave a remembrance for someone who was an incredible friend, who made a huge difference in my formative years, who was not terribly old, and who should still be with us today.

Mike was so generous. He was brilliant. Looking back, I realize that he introduced us, his friends in Williamstown High School, to some of the culture that he had left behind when he came to Williamstown, VT. But just by sharing and having fun, not in any arrogant way, because he was a fun, amazing, and totally welcoming and unpretentious guy.

I think everyone who knows Mike knows what I mean. He was gifted, he was inclusive and knew how to relate to folks. And, (you know, this is not about me but) I think I'm pretty smart, but he could usually crush me in a friendly game of chess, and he had such an incredible breadth of knowlege! He was a real eye opener, and was always happy to share, and also to join us in exploring our own interests.

I can't say how much I appreciated seeing him at my father's funeral. We spent some time to catch up; it was almost, but never quite, like old times.

Also, I'd like to say how much I appreciated Terry and Will (G-d bless his soul) providing my home away from home by generously allowing me to stay for extended periods, when I was working after school and my family home was a lot further out of town.

I'm can't express myself -- I feel a real sense of loss, because Mike and his family were such a part of my life. Goodbye, Mike. And, really, ... thank you.
