With profound sorrow, we share the passing of Michael Anthony LaPine, who left this world unexpectedly on the night of February 23rd. He was a man of quiet wisdom, boundless curiosity, and deep devotion to those he loved; Michael touched the lives of all who knew him with his kindness, calm steadiness, and unwavering love for his family.
From an early age, Michael showed an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Although autistic, he navigated life with a remarkable independence - driving, working with computers, and immersing himself in the world of books and learning. If you saw his room at home, it would be a testament to his lifelong passion for discovery. If he had an interest in something, he sought out everything he could to understand it. He ended up filling his room and closets with a vast collection of books and videos.
Michael was a man with a keen mind and a gentle spirit. He followed current events with intense focus and eagerly shared his insights with his family, often walking into the family room to announce a recent event. His love for his nieces knew no bounds-he nurtured them with patience, warmth, and unwavering devotion that will leave a lasting impression on them throughout their life.
Beyond his quiet demeanor, Michael had an amazing sense of humor. He loved funny videos and pranks, often sending them to his mom on a daily basis, then coming to watch them with her, laughing so hard he couldn't even breathe. It was the soundtrack of our home, him enjoying countless types of music in his room, the sound of his child-like laughter, and the quiet and steady sound of his steps as he went about his day. Even though most didn't see that side of him, as he was a private person, those lucky enough to witness his joy know how infectious it was. His ability to find joy and pure delight in simple moments, and the sound of his laughter will be sorely missed.
Michael also shared a rare and beautiful bond with his sister, one built over an entire lifetime of quiet devotion. They were each other's fiercest defenders, constant companions, and partners in learning. His quiet strength, steadfastness, and unwavering love for her was undeniable from the day he became a big brother.
In moments of crisis, Michael's courage shone. When a bus he was riding caught fire, Michael remained calm and fearless, extinguishing the flames without hesitation. During emergencies, he possessed a quiet calm and somehow knew just what to do, rising to meet any challenge.
Animals held a special place in Michael's heart. He had a rare and uncanny ability to calm even the most anxious souls. He was the one to have birds who get stuck inside, come and land on his finger, staying there even after Michael took them outside. His deep love for animals found him volunteering at the Humane Society of Silicon Valley for many years. He cherished his beloved dog, Cammy, who he loved to take out on their walks and they always started that walk with a hug from Michael, and a face lick from Cammy.
Among his happiest places was Angora Lakes Resort in Lake Tahoe, where he found peace and joy surrounded by nature. He would take walks by himself carrying a favorite and well-worn book with him. He would fish but never keep any of them. He could often be seen at Angora with a relaxed smile on his face, enjoying good food, and proudly giving out as many roasted marshmallows from the campfire as he could.
When his parents founded their company, Michael became an invaluable part of their journey, always stepping in to help however he could. He enjoyed the responsibility given to him and took pride in his work.
Michael's time here was far too brief, but his impact will be forever. Michael's heart was larger than life itself and love, wisdom, and quiet courage he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Pamela and Anthony LaPine; his siblings Amy LaPine, Lisa Nobel, Tanya LaPine, and Ray LaPine; and his cherished nieces, Olivia LaPine, Juliana LaPine, and Ariana Nobel.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
