Michael Edward Lindebak, 80, retired Wichita City Engineer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Ascension Lutheran Church.

Michael was born on March 29, 1945, in Story City, Iowa, to Edward Allen and Helen Margaret Lindebak. He was raised in the small farming town of Radcliffe, Iowa, where he developed a strong work ethic, a love for community, and a competitive spirit that would stay with him throughout life. Michael attended Ellsworth Community College, where he played baseball, before earning his Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University.

His career began with the Departments of Transportation in Iowa and Kansas, where his commitment to excellence and public service stood out. Michael eventually made Wichita his home and served as City Engineer from 1983 to 2002, helping to shape and improve the city's planning and infrastructure for nearly three decades.

Outside of his professional life, Michael was known for his enthusiasm and sense of competition-whether on the golf course, around the card table, or cheering for his beloved Iowa State Cyclones. He valued friendship, fellowship, and faith, and was an active member of his church and numerous community groups. More than anything, Michael desired that his children and grandchildren have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a reflection of his deep and abiding faith.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jane "Janey" Sue Lindebak. He is survived by his second wife, Patricia "Patty" Ann Lindebak; sons, Eric (Mary Jeanette) Lindebak, Scott (Sharon) Lindebak, and Brian (Kelli) Lindebak; grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Elli, Anna, Karlie, and Kyrsten; and sister, Judy McDonald.
