Michael S. Merendo

Michael S. Merendo, 63, of Amsterdam, NY, was found to have passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024. It is believed that his father, Julius's spirit guided him home prior to when he was found.
He was born in Amsterdam on October 14, 1960, to the late Julius V. and Cecelia (Gagliardi) Merendo. He attended Amsterdam High School before enlisting in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Michael worked for Longview Fibre Company. He was then employed through Walmart Distribution until his retirement.
Cooking for his family was very important to Michael. He made food for all the Post 701 holiday parties and was an active member of the American Legion until he fell ill.
He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Cecelia Merendo; sister Julie Parillo; and brother David Merendo.
Michael is survived by his daughter Jessica Merendo of Amsterdam; his greatest joy, his granddaughter Jaylin Capron; stepdaughter Jacqueline Howard; sisters Anne (Frank) Cardinale of Kingston, RoseMarie Monge, and Cecelia (Rick) Denison of Amsterdam; brothers Julius Merendo of Georgia and Terry (Tonya) Merendo of North Carolina; nephews Randy (Rebecca) Monge, Christopher (Vera) Cardinale, Lou (Denise) Cardinale, Michael Cardinale, Cory Reedy, and TJ Merendo; nieces Jessica Denison, Alyssa (Francesco) Nencini, and Cassie Merendo; as well as several cousins.
Michael will be laid to rest in St Michael's cemetery on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Michael to the American Legion John Wyzomirski Post 701, 123 W Main St, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
