To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord
2 Corinthians 5:8
Michael David Merritt, 68, of Pensacola, FL went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born on January 25, 1953, to his parents, Peggy and Dewey Merritt in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mike met the love of his life, Cyndee in 1970 at Escambia High School. They were married on September 11, 1971 and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Disney World, a place they have loved since 1976.
Mike played on several softball teams in Pensacola, he also coached Melynda, Angela, and Jessica in softball for many years. He followed Pine Forest High School football and baseball from 1987- 2002. Mike helped design and build the West Florida High School baseball field. He also helped coach their baseball team from 2001-2003. Over the years his hobbies were fishing, bowling, softball, basketball, and he was an avid golfer. He loved buying, trading, and upgrading his GMC trucks from Vince Whibbs. Mike was also the bass guitarist for Jessica Martin and The Wildhorse Band.
He worked in construction, and later went into Pest Control with Atlas Exterminators. In 1987 he decided to start his own business, Merritt's Termite and Pest Control Inc. He was so proud and successful for over 31 years and retired in December 2018.
Mike was a family man, who put his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandsons above everything.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Dewey E. Merritt.
He is survived by his wife, Cyndee Merritt; daughters, Melynda (Scott) Corley, Angela (Sean) Vollendorf, and Jessica (Ryan) Martin; two grandsons, who he loved with all of his heart, Chandler (18) and Rece (11) Corley; mother, Peggy Merritt; sisters, Kathy (Gary) Williams, Jan (Randy) Brunn, Sherrie (Johnny) Helms, and Ginger (Tony) Linton; several nieces and nephews; and too many friends to list.
The family would like to thank: EMT, Law Enforcement, Life Flight, and Sacred Heart Hospital for all their help and support.
A Going Home service will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at East Brent Baptist Church. The family invites friends to join them at 10:00 a.m. for the visitation, and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Brother Dale Patterson will officiate.
