Mike joins in death his spouse Karen Merz, father David Merz, stepmother Loretta Merz, stepfather Bob Carter, brother Tom Merz, sister Kathy Watrous, grandmother Ruth Brooks, uncle Martin Brooks, and nephew Christopher Smals. He leaves behind his mother, Mary Carter; brothers, Marty Merz, Donnie Smals, and Bryan Smals; children, Kelli Keeler and Andrew Merz; grandchildren, Cade and Cole Keeler.
He graduated from South High School, class of 1965. He was drafted by the United States Army, Vietnam War. He was a decorated decontamination specialist for the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, & Special projects test division at the United States Army Arctic test center in Alaska. Afterwards, he was a dedicated plumber for Eaton and Guy Miller plumbing. His personality was marked by laughter and generosity. He enjoyed travel, motorcycles, old cars, football, and was a loyal fan of the OSU Buckeyes. Mike's memory will live in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort and strength to all who mourn his passing.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held 2:00 to 3:30 P.M., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at COOK & SON - PALLAY FUNERAL HOME, 1631 Parsons Ave. Rev. Pauil Fowler officiating.
