Michael Moran Obituary
Michael Lambert Moran February 27, 1942 – January 7, 2025
Michael Lambert Moran, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, with his beloved wife of 57 years, Patty, and loved ones by his side.
Born on February 27, 1942, to Thomas and Philomene Moran in Detroit, MI, Mike was raised in Grosse Pointe. He graduated from Austin Catholic Preparatory High School in 1960 and went on to Michigan State University, earning his degree in 1965. A proud member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity, Mike cherished the friendships and memories he made there. His love for the Spartans remained unwavering throughout his life. Go Green!
Mike is survived by the love of his life, Patty, and their three children: Jennifer Williams-Bulkeley (David), Michael (Heather), and Jamie (Lorie). Known as "Grandpa Mike," he was adored by his eight grandchildren: Ben, Henry, Mary, Alexander, Hugh, Lily, Harper, and Finn. His children and grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he was always their biggest fan. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Cathy Rutledge (Alvin), Mary Barr (Lon), Lucy Gorski (Bob), and Joe Moran (Beth). He was preceded in death by his brother Tom Moran, sister Patty Forster, and brother-in-law Brian Forster.
Mike built a successful career as a commercial real estate broker in Southeast Michigan. He took great pride in his role as Vice President of Leasing and Marketing for Ford Motor Land Development Corporation during the construction of the Renaissance Center. Joining FMLDC at the project's inception, he faced the formidable challenge of leasing over 2 million square feet of office space. His exceptional success in this endeavor ultimately led to new opportunities, with Texas soon calling. In 1981, he moved his family to Houston, TX, for a position with a large real estate firm. While living in Texas, he and his sons developed a shared love for bird hunting and sporting clays, creating lasting memories together. Seven years later, the family returned to Michigan, where Mike continued his real estate career. He later retired as Director of Properties for the Archdiocese of Detroit, a role he found deeply meaningful.
A man of service, Mike devoted much of his time to charities, including South Oakland Shelter and Catholic Social Services. Helping those in need brought him profound satisfaction.
Mike was an active member of the Birmingham Athletic Club and the Stonycroft Hills Club in Bloomfield Hills. He had a lifelong passion for golf and cherished his annual golf weekends with his father and brothers.
Known for his deep faith, Mike spent much of his life nurturing his spiritual growth. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, and he was a steadfast friend and mentor. He shared a special love for his pets, including dogs Charlie (not so much), Bubba, Willie, Hank, Stan, and grand-dogs Teddy and Gus. Even the family cats-Ralph, Squeaky, and PJ-held a special place in his heart.
Mike's sense of humor, storytelling, and ability to connect with others were legendary. One of his closest friends lovingly described him as one of the funniest people they knew. His warmth and loyalty made him a cherished friend to many. Mike's life was a testament to faith, love, and resilience. May perpetual light shine upon him, and may he rest in eternal peace.
