Michael A O'Brien

Michael A. O'Brien, 79, of Circleville, NY, formerly of New Jersey, passed away on October 17, 2025.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, on June 17, 1946, to William and Christina (Robertson) O'Brien, he lived in Jersey City, moved to Japan for 5 years while his father served in the military post World War II and returned to Paterson, NJ, graduating from Clifton High School. He settled in North Caldwell, NJ, and Upper Montclair, NJ, before moving to Circleville in 1998.
He was a textile salesman at KBC of America in New York City. He had previously worked for John Kaldor Fabricmaker and Loomskill, both of New York City.
Michael was a true people-person who will be remembered for his sense of humor, story telling and ability to talk to anyone, He was a devoted grandfather who always made time for his cherished grandchildren.
An avid golfer, he also took pleasure in playing tennis and attending dog shows with his English Setters. He loved to cook while listening to good music, and his happy place was at the beach with family.
He was the beloved husband of Cynthia J. (Gliatta); loving father of Tara Fries and her husband, Jason, and Adam and his wife, Ka Vang; dear sisters, Kathleen Sheber and her husband, Sam, and Beth Friedberg and her husband Bill, and five cherished grandchildren, James, Olivia, William, Declan, and Skye.
A celebration of life will be held at Tierney's Tavern, 138 Valley Road, Montclair, on Sunday, November, 23, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland, NJ. Condolences and memories may be shared at farmerfh.com.
