Janet P. Schwartz, 70, of Caldwell, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 4 to 8 PM at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, farmerfh.com. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11 AM in the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
Born and raised in Brentwood, Missouri, Janet settled in Caldwell with her family in 1964, where she built a life rooted in kindness, patience, and love. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an actuary for CAI Company in Fairfield, where her intelligence and meticulous nature were deeply valued.
Janet was the devoted wife of the late Edward Schwartz, Jr., with whom she shared forty-five wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
The proud and loving mother of six sons, Janet was the heart and voice of reason for her family. Her sons will always remember her as forgiving, loving, patient, and soft-spoken, a true saint whose strength came from her gentleness.
She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, attending craft fairs, and relaxing at the beach. A lover of wine, cheese, and good books, Janet found joy in life's simplest pleasures and in the company of those she loved most.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, William and Margaret Garlette, her husband, Edward Schwartz Jr., and her son, Eddie Schwartz.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Eric and his wife Renee, Matt and his wife Becky, Ryan and his wife Rossana, Christopher and his wife Stephanie, and Michael and his wife Cynthia; her treasured grandchildren, Brianna, Eddie, Erica, Giulia, Audrey, Conner, Jillian, Jacob, Chloe, CJ, Sabrina, and Scarlett; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Elias, Athena, D'Angelo, and Coraline.
She is also survived by her dear siblings, William Garlette, John Garlette and his wife Kathleen, James Garlette and his wife Malinda, and Edward Garlette and his wife Claudia; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
