Michael John Redfeairn was born on July 8, 1976, in Lodi, California, to John and Kathy Redfeairn. Mike grew up in Bakersfield as the eldest of his three sisters Chrissy, Katie, and Beth. At 13, he began his first job as a horse wrangler at Thompson Ski Ranch, riding his horse to work as he saved up money for his first roping lessons. His love for rodeo began then and became a lifelong passion for rodeo.

Mike attended Highland High School, graduating in 1994. During his high school years, he started calf and team roping while also working for Dave Anderson as an electrician. While attending Bakersfield College, he partnered with Anderson to form Son Light Electric. In 2000, he met Candra at a college friend's wedding, and the two married soon after. In 2001 they welcomed their first son, Wilson, followed by Owen in 2004 and Ryder in 2008. His greatest joy was being a husband and father, providing for his family, and raising his boys to share his passion for rodeo.

In 2017, Mike built and ran his own business, R5 Electric, often working long days to ensure his family never went without. Respected by all who worked with him, he was admired for his determination, fairness, and loyalty. Though tough when needed, he was generous and dependable, always placing his family first.

Rodeo remained central throughout his life. He often could be found in the arena with anyone willing to work giving them pointers on their technique and life choices. Some of his proudest moments came from traveling with his family to rodeos and celebrating their achievements together.

Known for his quick wit, sharp mind, and humor that could light up a room, Mike was also grounded by a deep faith. He was the heart of his home, a steady provider, and a man whose legacy is reflected in the family he raised and the community he touched.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Candra; his children, Wilson, Owen, and Ryder; his sisters, Chrissy Calderwood, Katie Gregory, and Beth Redfeairn; and his parents, John and Kathy Redfeairn. He is also remembered by many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
