Michael A. Schimenti, Jr., 86, of Franklin Lakes, NJ, passed away on April 27, 2024.
Michael was born July 1, 1937 to Michael A. Schimenti, Sr. and Rosemary Schimenti (Napoliello) in Jersey City. After graduating from Hasbrouck Heights High School, he earned a BS in Physics from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1959 and an MS in Operations Research from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1965.
Over the next 35 years Michael's career roles involved the design, development, documentation, and operation of various systems including database management, satellite and terrestrial communications, real time message switching, data collection, and flight simulation. In 1969, with several associates he founded System Methods, Inc., a systems and software consulting firm. Michael ultimately retired from AT&T in 1996.
Michael was an Eagle Scout and an avid athlete enjoying both tennis and skiing. He loved gardening and was famous for his homemade thin-crust pizzas like margarita with basil, white garlic and onion, and prosciutto.
Michael was devoted to supporting his children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities which included soccer, lacrosse, ice hockey, baseball, track, swimming and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed camping at the Jersey Shore with his family on their annual summer vacation. He also loved to play bridge, hike, and travel – visiting numerous national parks throughout the country. He was a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jane; his two daughters and their husbands Kim and Jim Gotti (Oak Park, IL) and Beth and Dave Bosticco (Mahwah, NJ); his son and his wife Christopher and Lori Schimenti (Arlington, VA); and his grandchildren Samantha, Luke, Nicholas, Riley, Jenna and Ryan.
A Celebration of Life will be held in early July.
