Michael Lee Shortt, born on August 20th, 1959, in
Richlands, Virginia, passed away on June 7, 2024, at Candler Hospital in
Savannah, Georgia, after a brief illness. He was the cherished son of Paul and Betty Shortt, and his memory will forever remain a beacon of light in the hearts of those he touched.
Michael's life was a masterpiece woven with threads of creativity and love. He was a man of many talents and passions, each of which he pursued with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm.
Graduating from T. Wingate Andrews High School in
High Point, NC. Michael continued his pursuit of knowledge at the University of South Carolina. He was a proud member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
In 1985, Michael embarked on a career as a design architect at Millers of Savannah, where his creativity and vision left an indelible mark on every project he undertook. His passion for design extended beyond the realm of architecture, as he also distinguished himself as a talented writer, director, and producer, captivating audiences with his storytelling prowess and unique set perspectives.
Michael's love for adventure and adrenaline led him to become a member of the Oglethorpe Driving Club, where he found solace on the open road. He was a true enthusiast of the racing world as well as the entertainment industry, serving as the founder and sitting board member of the Savannah Regional Film Commission, Founder / former President of Ciao DeTomoso, former President of the Pantera Owners Club of America, and the Buccaneer Region of the SCCA, where he showcased his talents both on and off the track.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael's heart overflowed with compassion and generosity. He dedicated his time and resources to a number of charitable causes, including The Bethesda Academy Scholarship Fund and the annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive, leaving a lasting impression on the lives of countless individuals in need.
Michael shared a deep and abiding love with his devoted wife of 19 years, Joni, and their dogs Cody, Aston, and Martin. Michael is survived by his Wife: Joni, Stepdaughters: Jennifer (Glenn) Howell, Lisa (David) Frizzell, Granddaughters: Megan Howell, Sophia Frizzell and Samantha Frizzell, Siblings: Kimberly Lambert, PJ (Laura) Shortt, Bobbi Jo Shortt, Nephews: Paul (Nica) Egleston and Nico Shortt, Nieces Christiana (Luke) Troyon and Parker Shortt, great Nieces: Isabele and Lilly Troyon. Great nephews: Virgil Troyon and Braxton Lambert.
A graveside service will be held at Greenhills Memory Gardens in
Richlands, Virginia, on June 14, 2024, at 1 pm, where Michael will be laid to rest alongside his mother, Betty and his sister, Paula. A celebration of Michael's remarkable life will also be held in
Savannah, Georgia, with details to be announced via Facebook and other social media platforms.
Though Michael may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
