Michael A Sobie

Michael (Mick) Sobie was born November 21, 1952 to Leonard and Laverne Sobie. He married Linda (Oriti) and served as a military policeman in the Army. Afterward, he began his law enforcement career in Medina county. He retired from Wadsworth Police Department with recognition and awards for his exemplary service to the city and care for victims. Following retirement, Mick found enjoyment as a school bus driver in Medina.
While serving in the army in Germany, the trajectory of Mick and Lin's path changed dramatically when they devoted their lives to Jesus Christ. He found joy in facilitating seminars, Bible Studies, and home groups which encouraged people to grow in their walk with Christ. Mick was an elder at River of Life Ministries in Barberton, OH and was influential in starting the Celebrate Recovery ministry there. He was quick to share with others that the source of his purpose in life was his relationship with Jesus.
An avid gun collector, shooter, and reloader, Mick's real joy came in devoting his free time and vacations to his children and grandchildren. This included many trips to Ukraine and Alaska, where he invested in their lives and outreaches. He and Lin treasured "10 year old" trips with their grandchildren until his health declined.
Mick died November 28, 2023 following a 4 year battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife Lin, their four children, Scott (Oksana), Carleen (Nathaniel) Hobbs, Nathan (Teressa), and Danielle (Ryan) Watters, and his brother Timothy Sobie. Mick is beloved Poppi to 16 grandchildren ages 2 to 23.
Allowing for family to gather from great distances, services will not be held until Saturday January 13th, 2024. Friends may call at River of Life Ministries, 222 26th St NW, Barberton, from 10 am-1 pm. A funeral service will follow, celebrating Mick's life at 1:00 pm.
