Coach Michael "Mike" Tasso, age 68 of Jefferson passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Lexington Health Care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 6:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dustin Farmer officiating.
Coach Tasso was born in Yonkers, New York on July 7, 1955 to the late George Joseph Tasso and Dottie Hopkins Tasso. He graduated from Purdue State University; where he started on their football team. He received the award of All-American Defense Linebacker. He was a student counselor and coach at Ashe County High School for 19 years. Coach Tasso was a third-degree black belt. He was loved by his students and football players. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Tasso is survived by: a sister, Donna Tasso Johnson (Mark), of Meredith, New Hampshire; a niece, Emma and two nephews, Erik and Trey also survives.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mike Tasso "I've Got You" Memorial Fund, c/o Ashe County High School, PO Box 450, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

I remember meeting Michael years ago when he first moved to Ashe County. At the time, he rented my home. I always looked considered Mike to be a Big Gentle Giant. He definitely had a heart of gold and loved working with the youth. Great loss to everyone who knew him. Rest in Peace!
