Michael Richard "Scott" Torrey

Michael Richard "Scott" Torrey, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at his home in Yorkville, Illinois after his long battle with cancer.
Scott was born on November 7, 1946 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. After graduating high school, at 17, he voluntarily joined the United States Air Force in 1964. He was then deployed to Vietnam for a year to serve his country that he so loved. Upon returning, he hit the jackpot and was stationed in Blytheville, Arkansas where he met his future wife, Linda. They were married 56 years. Scott began work at HFC in 1968, later retiring from this company (now HSBC) in 1998 at the age of 52.
Scott was an avid lover of tennis and the outdoors who lived for summer when he would get to "play in his yard." Known for his impeccable impatiens flowers at our Carol Stream residence and having one of the best landscaped yards on the block, after retirement, Scott became a "Master Gardener." He spent his retirement years volunteering at the Morton Arboretum and their extension office helping others with their plant "emergency" questions.
Scott is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters Laura Torrey and Allison Leigh Torrey; grandson, Jacob Cobb; granddaughters, Rachel Leibforth, Sydney Leibforth, and Maggie Cobb; sister, Nancie McLean; nephews, Jeffery Sharp and Sam Beasley; nieces, Tina Sharp and Taylor Sharp; brother-in-laws, Jeff Sharp and David Sharp; sister-in-law, Sandra Sharp, pseudo-brother, Tommy Walker; his guard dog and most loving companion, Charlie; as well as many friends and extended family members.
A private Celebration of Life gathering will take place with family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
