Michael John Vendrasco, of Sedona, passed away on September 9, 2025. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie. He is survived by his son, Michael (“Mickey”), and two awesome grandchildren.
Born in Santa Barbara, California, Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and his law degree from UC Davis. He began his legal career with the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office and was later promoted to Assistant District Attorney.
Michael eventually moved with his family to Kern County, California, where he served as Deputy District Attorney for over three decades, primarily in a supervisory role. He oversaw several departments, including Felonies and the Gang Unit, and served as the liaison between the DA’s office and the Bakersfield Police Department’s gang unit.
He was recognized as Prosecutor of the Year by the Central Valley Arson Investigators Association. His respected guide to closing arguments became a trusted resource within the Kern County DA’s Office. Known for his humor and lively spirit, Michael was also the longtime emcee of the DA’s annual Christmas party, delighting colleagues with humorous highlights from the year’s cases.
A lifelong admirer of the Southwest, Michael retired to the Sedona area with Marjorie, where he embraced the natural beauty of the region. He loved welcoming visiting friends and family, serving as their tour guide and sharing his favorite local sights.
