Michael H. Whitman, age 58, of Hot Springs, died Friday, August 26, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on March 22, 1947 at Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of the late Ed Whitman and Rose Aupperle Whitman.

He graduated from high school in Clarion, Iowa and attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was associated with the Red Owl Grocery chain for several years before owning two grocery stores. He moved to Hot Springs in 1978 and became an independant insurance broker.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitman of Hot Springs; two sons, Mike Whitman and Mark Whitman both of Hot Springs; one special grandson, Michael Whitman of Hot Springs; his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Linda Whitman of Plymouth, Minnesota; three aunts, Bergel Whitman of Clarion, Iowa, Barbara Whitman of Lexington, Illinois, and Marjorie Gunderson of Houston, Texas; his mother-in-law, Joyce Griffith of Clarion, Iowa; his brother-in-law, Dan Griffith and his wife, Karen, of Iowa City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jaynece Tekippe and her husband, Patrick, of Ft. Atkinson, Iowa, sister-in-law, Carol Chapman and her husband, Greg, of Clarion, Iowa; nieces, and nephews; great nieces and great nephews, and countless other relatives and friends who were blessed by his presence in their lives. He was much loved and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs with Pastor Donald Trent officating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday evening.

Honorary pallbearers will be be the Medical Surgical staff at National Park Medical Center and Dr. Neeraj Bharany and his staff.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

I new Mike Sr. only a short time,

I had growed very close to Michael. He was a very sweet man and will be missed. I growed to love his sweet wife and children. Ill truly miss him but he is in Heaven with our father where he will never have no more pain. I know Nancy you will do fine. Just remember you will also have friends at NPMC Med/Surg.
