I remember the first day I met Michael soon after he moved to the neighborhood a couple of doors down from my house. Michael saw me outside and walked over to introduce himself, and we chatted for a little while. We were about the same age, I'm guessing maybe 7 or 8 at the time. He was well dressed and had a self confidence that I admired as I was very shy. In the years to come, Michael was always a part of the neighborhood group of kids during some of my fondest childhood years before my family moved out of state in the mid 80s. His younger brother, Shawn, frequented our house to play with my younger sister, Hayley. Michael displayed a great attitude and determination in most everything we all engaged in. After watching a large group of us kids play football in my yard one day, I recall my dad stating later on that of all kids present he was most impressed with Michael's overall heart and effort, and that stuck with me. After moving, I revisited the old neighborhood as a young teenager and took a day trip to King's Island along with Michael and another friend Aaron & his older brother. We had a great time.
It was a blessing to know Michael during my childhood.
