Mike Douglas

Mike Douglas, 83, of Rockford, passed away at home with family on Friday, December 12, 2025. Born August 5, 1942, in Beardstown, Ill., he was the son of Samuel T. and Faye S. (Schuman) Douglas.

He was raised in his early years on the Schuman family's Illinois Centennial Farm in Browning, Ill., later moving with his parents to Geneseo, Ill., and then to Chicago, where he attended Austin High School. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving covertly in Vietnam as a sniper and in reconnaissance. Mike met the love of his life, Kay Kendall, at Western Illinois University and married her on December 21, 1963. Throughout his working career, he was an outstanding salesperson, always demonstrating integrity and sincerity. Prior to his retirement, he became an entrepreneur and operated his own retail store in Rockford for several years. A longtime member of Crosspoint Church in Rockford, he expressed ongoing gratitude for the blessing of his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Survived by his wife, Kay; children, Tom (Jeanny) Douglas, Tracy (David) Palmer, and Barbara (Eric) Douglas-Johnson, all of Rockford; and grandchildren, Evelyn Johnson, Sadie Beachey, Hannah (Tyler) Buzzard, Natalie (Trevor) Burgess, Andrew Johnson, and Nate (Rachel) Douglas. Predeceased by his parents and his favorite aunt, Minnie Schuman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Crosspoint Church, 3215 E. State St., Rockford, followed by a luncheon immediately after. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., prior to the service. Private family burial in New Milford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Crosspoint Church.

The family expresses sincere thanks to their OSF Hospice team, especially Julie and Kim, and to Senior Helper Elinor. Their care was amazing.
