Muriel Beatrice Ruesch, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on December 10, 2025, with family by her side. She was born on April 18, 1928, in
Adams, WI, to Carl and Hazel (Wells) Lobenstein, one of 8 children.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Sigel, WI. Rev. Leo Raphael and Deacon Jerry Ruesch will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial rites will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Altdorf, WI.
Muriel started her working career at Wood County Telephone Company as a long-distance telephone operator; she was employed there for five years. On September 29, 1951, she married Anthony C. Ruesch in
Adams, WI. She dedicated the rest of her life to her husband, being a homemaker, and raising her 8 children on their family farm in the Town of Sigel, WI.
Muriel was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Altar Society at St. Joseph's Catholic church. She enjoyed golfing, reading, listening to polka music, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with her family, and her long-time friendships with the "Adams girls" and the "Telephone girls."
Muriel is survived by her 8 children, Sandra (Thomas) Nieman, James (Susan) Ruesch, Douglas (Connie) Ruesch, Joseph (Starr) Ruesch, Deborah Killian, Antonice (Dile) Moorehead, Lisa (Stephen) Downs, and Lori (David) Stanton. She was a proud grandmother to Colleen (Brian) Sazama, Tina (Brent) Davis, Melissa (Craig) Vitort, Mandy (Jon) Zajackowski, Heather Ruesch, Tanya Ruesch, Jesse (Carissa) Ruesch, Cascie (Mike) Komatz, Shane (Michaela) Ruesch, Dalton (Rachel) Ruesch, Matthew (Lindsey) Killian, Adam (Kylara) Killian, Christopher (Anne) Stanton, Kevin (Sarah) Stanton, and Andrew (Annie) Stanton, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as her sisters Joyce Tormoen and Janet Myers, brother Joseph (Shari) Lobenstein, sister-in-law Inez Krohn, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers Bernard Lobenstein and Lawrence Lobenstein, sisters Helen Kuhnke and Joan Davenport, daughter-in-law Susan Ruesch, son-in-law Brian Killian, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Muriel will be remembered for her selfless dedication to her family, her tireless strength and hardworking determination -- and her Christmas cookies! Muriel's memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family is grateful to the staff of Arborwood Lodge and Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for the care they provided to Muriel.
