Myrtis White Obituary

Myrtis H. White
Myrtis Harriett White (Stanislaus) died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026 at Waveny Hospice with her husband at her side. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Harriett and Clem Stanislaus, as well as her brother Stan. She is survived by her loving husband Roger. They met in 7th grade and started dating in 10th grade, graduating together from Uxbridge High School in 1961. She played the saxophone, piano, and organ for various school events. She was the valedictorian of the class and was awarded the first Sessions 4 year $40,000 scholarship to Smith College where she majored in Spanish. She had a gift for language speaking, being fluent in French as well. Roger attended the University of Massachusetts only 7 miles away. Roger majored in Biology. He would hitchhike every Saturday to be with her. Except for her Junior year abroad to Spain where she studied in Madrid and travelled throughout Spain; they have always been together. Upon returning from Spain, she and Roger became engaged. They were married in Uxbridge, MA on July 24, 1965 in the Congregational Church; were hired to become teachers at West Rocks Junior High School in Sept. of 1965. They were the first married couple to teach in the same school. She taught various levels of Spanish and transferred to Norwalk High School in 1970 where Roger in 1996 became a Housemaster. Teaching and reading were her passions. Over 2000 books are in their home. After retiring, she continued to work as Adjunct Professor at Fairfield University and Adult Education ESOL until 2021. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling throughout the states, including Hawaii and Alaska as well as England and France. They also enjoyed boating, and had a timeshare in Mexico for yearly visits where she could practice her Spanish. Although they were not able to have children, they have many nieces and nephews as well as cats and dogs. As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. She will be cremated and her ashes kept by Roger until his death, where a celebration of their lives will be scheduled. Donations may be made to the Natalia Rodriquez Scholarship fund at Norwalk Board of Education. A complete obituary and online guestbook may be found at: www.Magnerfuneralhome.com

I am lucky to have grown up living across the street from Mr. and Mrs. White. You were were like second parents to us, welcoming us to the neighborhood and always keeping a watchful eye on us as we grew up. Having Mrs. White as my Spanish teacher was a privilege and my respect and regard for her, both as a professional and a person, only grew as time went on. My deepest condolences go out to you, Roger, or Mr. White to my brothers, sister and I. Please do not hesitate to call any of us for anything at all. (203-382-3887) We will be here if you need us.

Our favorite neighbors! So many years living across the street from each other and so many memories that can be shared and forever will live in our hearts. We spent many Christmas days celebrating at our house and those will always bring a feeling of warmth. Our friendship was special because she taught my kids, which was not an easy task but because of who she was she gained their respect and love. We will always treasure all the times we spent together and will hold those memories deep in our hearts! We will miss her. Our deepest condolences to Roger and may she rest in peace. Zeidy

Mr. White,
My all time favorite teacher and summer playground counselor. You kept all of us in line in your own nice way. Always played baseball and basketball with us during the summer. We still speak of you often. Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of Mrs White. A legend at West Rocks and a great teacher. She knew how to keep us interested. Please find peace Mr. White. Best couple ever.
Love always,
Kenny.

Mrs White was one of the greatest teachers I ever had along with her husband Roger. They taught for the love of teaching and educating the youth. They were stern when needed but so sweet. She will be missed greatly but please know that she made her mark in Norwalk! RIP Mrs White
