Myrtle Lou (Auten) Barr, aged 88, of
Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the Rolling Hills Rehabilitation & Care Center in Bridgeport, Ohio. Myrtle was born on October 8, 1936, in Wheeling, where she spent much of her life surrounded by family and friends.
A devoted homemaker, Myrtle was known for her incredible baking skills, particularly her homemade cookies, which were cherished by all who knew her. Her love for sweets extended beyond her kitchen; she had a fondness for York Peppermint Patties, Oreo cookies, Nabisco Pinwheels, and a refreshing bottle of Mountain Dew.
Myrtle was an active member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in
Wheeling, WV, and faithfully practiced her Catholic faith throughout her life. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she supported her family's ventures, including her involvement with Ben's Place, her father-in-law's bar, Barr's Body Shop, her husband's business, and Living Your Best Cigar Life, her grandson, Tyler Harto's business.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Herbert and Kathryn (Bowers) Auten; her husband, Jerry Barr, who passed away in 2007; her sister, Jackie Read; her brother, Herbert Auten; and her cherished dog, Nelson Lee Barr.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Ronna (Paul) Harto, Sr., of
Wheeling, WV, and Danna (Deon) Foster of Bridgeport, OH; her grandsons, Paul Harto Jr. of
Wheeling, WV, Christopher (Cory) Harto of West Liberty, WV, Tyler (Megan Bruce) of McMechen, WV, and Luke Harto of McMechen, WV. Myrtle also leaves behind her sister, Kathryn "Kitty" Stahl of Columbus, OH; her brother, James (Sylvia) Auten of Wilmington, NC; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, Tyler's grand-fur baby, Cutch Andrew Harto, and Luke's grand-fur baby, Thor Odinson Harto.
Myrtle's warmth, kindness, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by her family and friends. As they mourn her passing, they take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who went before her. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received from 2-8 pm, Monday, September 29, 2025, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street,
Wheeling, WV, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with Harry Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
