Nadean Cool
née Bickel, 70, died on January 10th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on May 30th, 1952, in
Blue Island, IL, to the late James and Charlotte (Nye) Bickel She grew up with her five siblings in
Lansing, IL, where she graduated from Thornton Fractional South High School. At the same time, she was
busy sweeping soon-to-be husband Mike Cool off his feet when they met at the River Oaks Mall outdoor concert featuring Frank Sinatra, Jr. The two married on January 29th, 1971, in Lansing.
A year later, Mike's new teaching job took the pair to
Appleton, WI. Soon after, Nadean began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a few local nursing homes, Appleton Medical Center, and St. Elizabeth's Hospital. During this time, Nadean and Mike had two
children: Kimberly and Michael.
In her younger years, Nadean loved live music, seeing Bob Seger many times and even getting to the front row at one concert thanks to the dedication of her husband Mike. She also enjoyed partying with friends, dancing at the Fire Alarm, family trips to Six Flags, and
Chicago family reunions. Through the years, she developed a passion for many interests, including (but certainly not limited to) plants, dogs, and movies and TV-especially Star Trek. This led to an array of extensive collections that will keep her memory alive.
In 1989, Nadean hit another milestone when her first grandchild was born, eventually leading to a total of seven. All of her grandkids will remember her as more of a second mother than a grandmother, and they will look back fondly on their time spent with her watching
movies, scouting out rummage sales, and taking a dip in the pool she had custom-built just for them.
In her later years when she became a great-grandmother, Nadean valued spending time with family and having them all under one roof-an easy task thanks to her amazing cooking skills. This love of family also manifested itself in her extensive genealogy research, leading all the way back to at least the Revolutionary War.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael; children: Kim (Jim) Drath, Neenah and Michael (Carrie) Cool, Appleton; 7 grandchildren: Sierra Cool, Haley Hanold, Carley Fuhrman, Christopher Cool, Corina Cool, Megan (Dan) Gall and Courtney Knoblock; 6 great grandchildren: Payton Schmude, Malakai Thor, James Schmude, Violet Schmalz, Markus Olson and Hazel Wilson; Nadean's siblings: Donna (Don) Sommerfeld, Jeff (Judy) Bickel, Jan (Tobin Waters) Bickel and Dawn (Larry) Graham; sisters in law: Chris Gelb and Kathy Cool; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved dogs: Buffy and Oz.
Nadean was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James; father and mother-in-law: Burt Cool and Pauline Curtis and a brother-in-law, Doug Cool.
In true Nadean fashion there will be a non-traditional celebration of her life at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 from 11AM until 3 PM. Join us for good tunes, good stories and okay food. She'll be in her jammies and slippers, so feel free to dress down too. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Our Pack Animal Rescue, Inc".
