Nadine Joyce (Sager) Hewis passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in her hometown of Chardon, Ohio.

Nadine grew up in Burton, Ohio with her three sisters, Catherine (Sager) Gingerich, Bonnie (Sager) McCauley who preceded her in death, and Darlene (Sager) Hillier. She attended Burton High School, where she graduated in 1962. Her sense of adventure and fun-loving spirit were legendary, especially tales of her youthful escapades, such as sneaking out to climb the Burton Water Tower.

Her early professional life saw her working at the iconic Terminal Tower at Dunn & Bradstreet, where she first met her beloved Lance, thanks to a carpool downtown. It took six tries to ask her out, but she finally said, "Yes!" They were married four months later; a love story that would span nearly 61 years.

As a homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, her greatest joy was found in her family: her devoted husband, Lance, her cherished children, Heidi (Hewis) Rothschild, Joe Hewis (Brigette), Jon Hewis, and Amy Hewis, and her adored grandchildren, Benny Rothschild, Sydney Rothschild, Jack Hewis, and Clay Hewis. Nothing delighted her more than being with her family.

Nadine's interests were as colorful as her personality. She found joy in garage sale adventures with her best friends, Brenda, Marcia, and Susan, and in buying her Christmas gifts 11 months early every year. She enjoyed playing slot machines, sneaking flowers from the unsuspecting country roads, and sipping on a cup of coffee at any time of the day.

One of Nadine's greatest gifts in life was making people feel welcome. She loved talking and made friends easily. She often parted ways by saying "watch for deer" – which was her fond midwest way of letting you know she cared.

Her career later took her to Hillcrest Hospital and, after her kids left for college, she worked part-time at Pleasant Hills Golf Course, where she found a second family among her co-workers and the golfers; especially those in the Tuesday and Thursday night leagues.

A strong and resilient woman, Nadine ensured her children had everything they needed, instilling in them values of love, kindness, and friendship. Her family fondly remembers her unexpected recovery in hospice after an embolic stroke two years ago, a testament to her indomitable spirit and tenacity to live her life her own way. Her life was a tapestry of relationships, experiences, and a profound joy that she shared generously with all. The memories of her laughter, love, and the gentle strength she embodied will forever be cherished.

A celebration of life will be hosted by her family on October 9, 2025, at Claridon Woodlands Lodge, 11383 Claridon Troy Road, Chardon, Ohio 44024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local animal shelter of your choice in Nadine's name, since she adored her many pets throughout the years.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.burrservice.com.
