Nancy Ann (Hysell) Flowerday, daughter of Robert (Bob) and Nelma (Thomas) Hysell was born October 5, 1961 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa.
Nancy was baptized in 1980 with her mom and sister Mary and was a member of the Allerton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing at many Bluegrass/Country music festivals with her dad and two older brothers, Bob Jr and Tom. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, she also enjoyed cooking, bowling, camping and camp fires. She was an avid football fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska Huskers, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. Christmas was her favorite holiday, knowing she would be with her family and getting to eat her mom's cooking. Nancy was always her happiest when she made someone smile or laugh.
Nancy met and fell in love with Dennis Nickell, and the two were married on June 14, 1986.
Dennis brought twin daughters, Amanda and Angela into the marriage, which she loved as her own. After five short years of marriage Dennis passed away in 1991. Nancy continued loving her step daughters and they were always considered her daughters and remained a big part of her family.
Nancy loved all kids and worked for Headstart and later worked at Magical Beginnings Early Childhood center, where she loved her work family and knew that God had Blessed her with a building full of kids. She touched many lives during her working years at Magical Beginnings and remained Miss Nancy to all the kids and parents. Nancy's great nieces and great nephews always called her, "Crazy" Aunt Nancy and she always wore that crown proudly.
In 2003 she met and fell in love with John Flowerday. They were planning to get married but John was diagnosed with colon cancer, he passed away in April 2023. Nancy took his last name to honor the love they shared.
Nancy is survived by her step daughters; Amanda Irving and Angela Nickell; her grandchildren Kolton and Kynlee Irving; her brothers Tom (Jan) Hysell and Ron (Lisa) Hysell and her sister Mary (Mike) Watsabaugh. Sister-in-law Joyce Hysell. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, that she loved very much! She is also survived by her many cousins and friends; and all her adoptive kids and parents from Magical Beginnings.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Nelma, her maternal and paternal grandparents; her husband Dennis, her fiancé John, her brother Bob Jr, son-in-law Brian Irving, her nephews; Travis and Zachary; great nephew Wren and other loved ones.
