Nancy Emeline Gillette

Nancy Emeline Gillette, 87, of Norfolk, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on January 27, 1938, in Hanover, New Hampshire, to Rita Eudora Haskins and Willis Davis Webster, Nancy lived a life full of purpose, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others.
Nancy was the beloved wife of Philip Gillette, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of devoted partnership. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Sarah Sharp, and a cherished grandmother to William Baldwin IV (Robin). Her legacy lives on through her great-grandchildren-Hannah, Jay, Sofia, and Ava-each of whom brought her immense joy.
She is also survived by her brother, David Webster (Pam), and nephews Jon and Scott. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sons John Sharp and Stephen Sharp, whose memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Nancy held a Master's degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University and spent her entire career dedicated to mental health as a social worker. She approached her profession not just as a job, but as a calling-providing empathy, support, and advocacy for those most in need.
A woman of deep convictions and wide-ranging interests, Nancy was passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours tracing her family's roots. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader who found joy in foreign films at the Naro Theater and delighted in traveling to new places, always eager to experience different cultures, foods, and perspectives.
Nancy's commitment to justice and equity guided much of her life's work. She was an active member of Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalist Church (CVUU), Empower Hampton Roads, and the League of Women Voters-organizations that aligned with her values and gave her avenues to serve her community with heart and purpose.
Nancy will be remembered for her fierce intellect, gentle spirit, and tireless advocacy for the marginalized. Her life was a beacon of compassion, and her memory will remain a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held at a later date at the Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalist Church.
