Nancy Joan Shuman, 81, of Muncie, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie, following an extended illness.
She was born on September 6, 1944, in Anderson, Indiana to Melvin B. and Ethel Jean (Roberts) Thornburg. She was a 1962 graduate of Anderson High School. She was a hostess for World Gospel Missions in Marion. She had also worked in marketing and advertising.
Nancy loved to help people. She was involved in many aspects of the World Gospel Missions, including missionary trips. Her heart was in serving her Lord. She was involved in theater groups, starting in high school. She was involved with starting the Geetings Summer Theater which later became Anderson's Mainstage Theater. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Nancy is survived by a son, Jeremiah (wife, Rachel) Shuman of Mississippi; a granddaughter, Breanna Shuman of Mississippi; three sisters, Julia (husband, Terry) Dotson of Anderson, Susannah Rosenthal of Muncie and Lois (Mick) Thornburg of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Benton "Bob" Thornburg and David Ross Thornburg.
