Nancy Ann Simeone (nee Keane), 93, passed away on December 14, 2023.
Visiting hours are from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Scanlan's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm during the visitation. Burial will be held at 11 am on Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to Ann and James Keane on February 12, 1930, Nancy grew up in midtown Manhattan, where she attended Cathedral High School associated with St. Patrick's Cathedral, majored in English and graduated in 1948. Nancy moved to Belleville, New Jersey after she married her beloved husband, Jerry, Sr. in 1954 where they lived and raised their family together for many happy years before moving to Pompton Plains, where she resided for 16 years.
Nancy lived a full life filled with family, friends, love and laughter. She was the heart of the family and her humor and fun-loving spirit were appreciated by all who knew her making every moment with her a cherished memory.
Growing up in New York City during the Great Depression and World War II, she often told sometimes hilarious stories from her childhood. The city was their playground as she and her siblings raced through Grand Central Station on roller skates, or playing with their dolls in the lobby of The Waldorf Astoria hotel. Having two sisters close in age, the youngest one "borrowing" her freshly-ironed clothes while she was at work and sneaking them back on hangers before she returned home.
Nancy held many diverse jobs before becoming an employment counselor at Snelling & Snelling, Inc. where she worked for several years. She previously held positions around NYC including AT&T, Macy's Herald Square and various secretarial positions on Madison Avenue. A big accomplishment was successfully completing motivational speaker training at Dale Carnegie where she discovered a hidden talent. There she was offered a speaking job but instead used her skills running part-time workshop meetings at WeightWatchers. People connected easily with Nancy and appreciated her wisdom, advice and kindness.
Nancy had a passion for music and art. She was a talented artist, painter and skilled craft-maker. An avid country music fan, she also loved "old-time rock and roll" including music from her favorite bands such as Bob Seger, The Band, U2, Bruce Springsteen and Keith Urban.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Gerard Simeone, her brother, Donald Keane and sisters, Lenore Williams and Barbara McKenna.
She is survived by her children Gerard Simeone (Paula), Barbara Maiese (Kenneth), Barry Simeone (Monica), nephews Frank Simeone (Cheryl), Michael Williams (Marcia), Mark Williams, niece Joyce Noll (Bob) as well as her beloved grandchildren Christina, Robert, James, Barry, Jr., Ava and great-granddaughters Emilia and Madison.
