Nancy Grey Lazenby Stables Nancy Grey Lazenby Stables, age 86, a resident of Richmond, Virginia, died August 25, 2010, after a brief illness.

Prior to moving to Richmond she resided for 10 years in Culpeper, Virginia, and for 30 years she was a resident of Mission, Texas. She was born on April 16, 1924, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the youngest child of Robert E. Lazenby and Willie Blanche Dinwiddie Lazenby.

Mrs. Stables was a graduate of Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, Class of 1945. After college, she was a reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. She married Linton D. Stables, Jr., on November 23, 1950. She then embarked on a career as a mother and an Army officer's wife, sharing her gift of hospitality on various posts in the United States and in Germany. Following her husband's retirement from the military the family relocated to Mission, Texas.

She started a second career as a teacher, and later a librarian, earning a Master of Library Science degree from North Texas State University in 1975. Following her retirement from the Mission Independent School District, she and her husband relocated to Culpeper, Virginia, where she resided until 2009.

In retirement she enjoyed travel, especially visits to her children and grandchildren, entertaining and cooking for her many friends, knitting for family and charitable organizations, and playing bridge. She was an active member of Culpeper United Methodist Church, serving in a Women's Circle and helping to lead a reorganization of the church library.

Her husband passed away in 2004. Mrs. Stables is survived by her sons, Linton D. Stables, III of Brooklyn N.Y., Jeff G. Stables of Duluth, Ga., and Robert E. Stables of Newburyport, Mass.; her daughter, Katie Stables Marvin of Kingwood, Texas and six grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Thompson of Bluefield, W.Va.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 31 at 11 a.m. at the Culpeper United Methodist Church. She will be buried with her husband at the National Cemetery of Culpeper. The family requests that those desiring to make memorial contributions make a gift in her name to The Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org) or to The University of Richmond (www.giving.richmond.edu). Condolences may be given at clore-english.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway,
