Nancy Lynn Armstrong Valentine – Age 85 of Knoxville, TN. passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Nancy was born on August 19, 1939, to her loving parents, Ernest and Ella Armstrong.
Nancy is survived by her sons Charles (Chuck) Valentine, Jr. and Eddie Gibbs, Jr., and the amazing Bryon Valentine; granddaughter, Saturn Valentine; nieces and nephews, JoAnn Huskey, Rodney White, Larry White, Kim Haun, Mike Armstrong, Charlie Sheddan, Rev. Kenny Armstrong, Karen Armstrong, Kent Armstrong, Lynn Doane, Debbie Clifton, Pamela Doane, Susan Abston and Wayne Armstrong;
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Charles Valentine, whom she met while working at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital; six siblings, Margaret (Clarence) White, Jim (Irene) Armstrong, Edith (Jack) Sheddan, Ralph (wives Artha first, and Carolyn second) Armstrong, Sue (Jerry) Doane and Glenn (Macie) Armstrong; nieces and nephews, Jackie Sheddan, Rev. David Sheddan, Allen White and Cathy Armstrong.
Nancy was a 1957 graduate of Carter High School and later received her R.N. Degree from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in 1960. She excelled at the top of her nursing boards in 1961. Nancy went to work for East Tennessee Baptist Hospital and later worked with Home Health Care of East Tennessee/House Call Healthcare as a nurse manager. She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Shekinah Lodge #456.
Nancy's favorite times were spent with her family, especially her granddaughter. She inspired with love and devotion for her family and friends, instilling a legacy of always being there for her loved ones, loving others and helping them wherever she was able. Nancy cared for her family, friends and strangers in many ways, and often remained anonymous for the good deeds she did for others. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, but most importantly she was an inspiration. She was a traditional southern lady and a wonderful cook.
Thank you to the wonderful staff of Atria at Weston Place. You helped our mother know that in a world that she no longer recognized, she was loved. You took away her fear and eased her pain while creating a safe world for a stranger who grew to love you. Our family is forever grateful.
As Nancy would say, "Just be nice, and please Lord, put your arms around my shoulders and your hand across my mouth."
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Bridges Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Caledonia Cemetery for a 2:00 PM Graveside Service with Rev. Kenny Armstrong and Dr. Bruce Martin officiating.
