Nancy J. (Booth) Walker, 79, of Vernon, loving wife of over 58 years and best friend of Oswald "Tim" Walker, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Nancy was born on September 12, 1946, in Beckley, West Virginia, one of two beloved daughters of the late Albert and Peggy Booth.
Nancy was raised in West Virginia and was a graduate of Mount Hope High School, Class of 1964. She earned her bachelor's from Concord College in Athens, WV and her master's in education from UConn. Nancy was a teacher for over 34 years, retiring from the Willington Board of Education in 2006.
Nancy was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Society East in Manchester. She was an avid writer and historian and had a deep understanding of Appalachian history. Nancy was in the process of writing a book set during the Civil Rights Era. Nancy had a passion for social justice and humanitarian issues. Nancy was active in a writing group and a women's group through the UUSE where she found close friendships and comradery. Nancy loved animals and she found comfort and humor in her grandog Flynn who was her daily bed companion. Nancy's true passion was teaching and children. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her loving husband, Tim, Nancy leaves her two cherished children and their families, her son David Walker and his wife Virginia and their two children, Virginia Taylor Walker and Cole James Walker all of Stafford, VA and her daughter Sara Walker and her son Walker J. LaChapelle both of Manchester. Other family members include her sister, Juinell Riivald and her husband, Heikki of over 50 years of Morgantown, WV, her sister-in-law, Sally Slack of Charlestown, WV, her brother-in-law, Bill Walker of Houston, TX, her former son in law, Eric LaChapelle several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
All are welcome to join her family for a service at the Unitarian Universalist Society East, 153 West Vernon Street, Manchester, CT 06042, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 am. At the request of her family, internment services will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Society East at www.uuse.org Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vernon, has care of the arrangements.
