Nathan E. Phelps, 55, of New Castle passed away Friday, August 22, 2025 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born October 24, 1969 in New Castle the son of Stanton Ray Phelps and the late Linda Kay (South) Phelps.

Nathan was a 1987 graduate of Tri Junior Senior High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Gulf War and was a military policeman. He was awarded the best machine gunner in the European Theater. Nathan was a semi-truck driver and worked several manufacturing jobs. He was on a bowling league, was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed shooting, kayaking and playing pool.

Nathan is survived by a step daughter, Alissa (Floyd) Jewell of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Jordan and Greyson Jewell; father, Ray Phelps of New Castle; brother, Brian Phelps of Shelbyville and two nephews, Ryder and Noah Phelps.

In addition to his mother, Kay, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Phelps in 2014.

Graveside services will be at 12:00 PM Thursday, August 28, 2025 at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Military rites will be conducted by contingents from the US Army and the Knightstown American Legion. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
