Neal Joyce Obituary
MIDDLETON – Mr. Neal Allan Joyce 85 of Ferncroft Towers, Middleton, formerly of Beach Ave, Salem Willows, beloved husband of Maureen (Buckley) Joyce, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 6th, 2025 at his home.
Born in Joplin, Missouri, he was the son of the late C. Glenn and Mary (Long) Joyce. Neal was the oldest of 3 boys. He was raised and educated in Carthage, Missouri. He began his college experience at the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, MO, but they didn't offer his preferred major, Fun and Games, so he transferred to Kansas State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business.
Following graduation, Mr. Joyce began a long and successful career in the Bedding Industry. From logistics, to manufacturing and production, he mastered all the aspects of the industry. Having been associated with Leggett & Platt, NASCO and Farnsworth Fibers for many years as the Plant Controller and Vice President of Operations, he truly valued the steadfast team work and competitive nature the industry required for success. Many companies sought out Neal for his professional acumen and overall steadfast precision to his profession. Upon retirement, Neal spent his time volunteering with a vast amount of local North Shore charities and non-profits. He spent many years assisting at the Middleton Food pantry, a cause close to his heart.
Mr. Joyce's career in the bedding industry, lead him to New England where he met the love of his life, Maureen. They built a beautiful life together, full of date nights; travels, adventures, laughs and most of all love. They recently celebrated 54 years of partnership in July of 2025; they were truly an exceptional team and the best of friends.
Neal was blessed with various talents and knew a little something about everything. He was a project enthusiast, willing to jump in and give it a try; his projects or another's, Neal loved to tinker. A loyal friend, who was the first one there if you were in need, he endeared himself to many, through his quick smile, dry wit and extended hand. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Salem, and a former member of the Boston Yacht Club and the Ferncroft Country Club. Boating, fishing and golf, were hobbies he very much enjoyed, but never truly mastered. He was happiest surrounded by his family and friends no matter the quest.
Neal is survived by his loving wife, A. Maureen (Buckley) Joyce, his beloved daughter, Neala Mercier and her husband, Jeffrey of Methuen, his cherished grandchildren, Dylan A. and Alexis J. Mercier, his honorary daughter, Barbara Glicklich and her husband, Shawn of Boxford and his beloved grandchildren, Megan and Andrew Gibson and Isaac and Ryan Glicklich, his brother, Keith Joyce and his wife Barbara of Arkansas, his sister-in-law Charlotte "Holly" Joyce of Missouri and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many, many friends and partners in crime. He was the brother of the late Max Joyce.
Neal wore so many hats: husband, father, papa, loyal friend, volunteer, gentleman, vice president, finder of trouble, mischief maker; but no matter the moniker he was loved by all. The world was a better place because of him. There is and will always be; only one Neal Joyce –
