Neil LeRoy Lexow passed away on March 11, 2025 at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Junction City. Neil was born October 11, 1936 to Raymond and Pearl (Altwegg) Lexow. He was born, raised, and farmed his entire life in the Sutphen Mill Community. He attended Prairie Hill and Wesley schools before entering Dickinson County Community High School and graduating in 1954. After high school, he farmed with his dad, worked various jobs, and joined the Army National Guard, serving from 1958-1964. As a member of the Guard he remembered regularly serving in local Color Guard services.
In 1966 Neil married Thelma Stillwagon. They lived their entire marriage on the same farm where they raised their three children. Neil loved farming the land and instilled this love in his kids and grandchildren. He loved John Deere equipment and was most proud of his restored John Deere G tractor that had been in the Lexow family. He enjoyed driving it in the Chapman Labor Day Parade until recent years when unable.
Neil served as a board member of the Alida-Pearl Coop and as an elder at the Sutphen Mill Christian Church. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Chapman High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his football and javelin accomplishments. Neil loved attending and cheering on his grandchildren at their various athletic and FFA activities.
Neil was preceeded in death by his parents and sisters, Mernadean Taylor, Audrey Larson, and MaryAnn Lexow. He leaves behind his wife, Thelma, and children Lynn (Vicki), Rayland, and Jennifer (Jeff) Bartlett. He had five grandchildren that were his whole world, Logan (Sydney) Lexow, Taylor (Ben) Bauman, Brayden Lexow, and Kolbie and Jordan Bartlett. He had two great-grandchildren, Koe and Kaislee Lexow.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on March 13 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. on March 14 at the Sutphen Mill Christian Church (3117 Paint Rd., Chapman, Kansas). Memorial Contributions can be made to Sutphen Mill Christian Church. Memorial may be dropped off or mailed to Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
