Nellie Myrtle Dooley, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Born on October 2, 1931, to Grafton and Olean King in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Nellie was a loving mother and cherished nanaw, whose warmth and devotion to her family were felt by all who knew her.
Nellie was a woman of many passions. An avid traveler, she explored the world with a spirit of adventure, and she especially cherished the memories made on her Tobey Tour Bus trips. At home, she found joy in gardening, crocheting, and embroidering, often creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her loved ones for years to come. Her culinary skills were legendary, with her homemade sausage gravy and biscuits being a family favorite that brought everyone together.
A long-time member of Beechmont Baptist Church, Nellie found strength and community in her faith, which guided her through life's many joys and challenges. Her 25 years of dedicated service at ICI Ammunition exemplified her strong work ethic and commitment to her community.
Nellie will be remembered as an amazing woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness, humor, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to inspire her family and friends.
Nellie is preceded by her loving husband of 20 years, William Wallace Dooley; parents, Grafton G. and Olean Cassidy King; son, Steven Martin; son-in-law, Alvin McNelly; and 6 siblings.
Left to cherish her memory, Nellie is survived by her daughter, Hilda McNelly; granddaughter, Adriane McNelly; great-granddaughter, Daeon McNelly; daughter-in-law, Becky Martin-Burkes; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Nellie Dooley will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Entombment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
