Our mom, Nell, was born on October 11, 1935, in Menard Texas to Calvin Augustus Gill and Olga Helena (Swinney) Gill. On June 17, 2025, mom left an old hurting body and her children at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock to stand in a new body with all the heavenly host to sing eternal praises to God and her Savior. Mom was born the youngest of four daughters into a family that was constantly on the move in search of work and the American dream. They finally found some permanance in the Pecos valley of New Mexico where they lived in almost every town in the valley at some point. During her high school years, they were in Dexter where she met a boy that would become her one and only romeo. On October 28, 1951, she became the bride of Kenneth Ray Monk Sr. They celebrated seventy years of life and fruitfullness before Dad's death on March 5, 2022. Mom was a fulltime homemaker for the early years of their marriage until they invested in their first business at which point she became a full-time homemaker and business partner and front office manager and bookkeeper. The business partnership lasted for thirty-eight years when they retired and traveled as full time RVers.
Mom was proceeded in death by our dad, Kenneth Ray Monk Sr, her granddaughter Shala Rae Monk, our grandaddy and granny Gill, her sisters Helen Aston and Mildred Fenter. She is survived by daughter Judi Thomas and companion Walter Cartier of Carrizozo, NM, son Kenneth Monk and wife Neita of Lubbock, TX, son John Monk and wife Shelly of Roswell, NM, son Keith Monk and companion Wendy Cranford of Rutherfordton, NC, eleven grandkids, twenty four great-grandkids, two great-great-grandkids, sister Lou Girard of Asher, OK, and sis-in-law Cheryl Douglas of Rochester, NH.
